In the early eighties of the last century I worked in Amsterdam as a carpenter and we renovated old buildings. Those houses where rather small and most of the window frames where rotten. They had to be replaced by plastic frames with double HD glazing. But the old stained glass had to be thrown away. Most of them where damaged anyhow, but some of them looked rather okay and I ‘rescued’ them for later use.
In our first wooden clubhouse some of them returned. Others were stored for later use. Now, roughly thirty years later they where taken out of there mothballs and found a new use in our clubhouse. Nowadays they call that ‘Circular Economy’. Look and see for yourself. Two of those stained glass windows I placed in my own house as well some twenty years ago.
