In two months from now we will celebrate our 40th anniversary. And as I sated earlier; ‘time flies when you’re having fun’. Our clubhouse will be ready to welcome you by that time. The official opening will probably take place later.
But the past 40 years have flown by in a shit and a fart. With all its ups and downs. Just a short summary of the most important highlights for me.
Of course the actual founding on August 1st in 1979. Our first intended club accommodation, a boat on the ring-canal in 1980. Our second temporary accommodation, a squatted school building in 1982. Then our departure point for just about all trips and parties, at my parents’ home from 1979 to 1985. Then our alternative departure point snack bar ‘De’ Lantearn ‘. Then our first real “own” wooden clubhouse, a.k.a. the ‘Big-Twin Saloon’ in 1985. My accident in 1987. Our 10th anniversary in 1989. The death of my younger brother Blut in 1988. The opening of our second new and larger clubhouse in 1999. The death of Schweik in 2002. Our 25th anniversary in 2004 and soon after the death of Manny, also in 2004. The founding of our chapter in Almere in 2006. Our 35th anniversary in 2014. The fire of our second clubhouse in 2015. Then the death of Big Jos in 2017 and Haagse Fred in 2018. And not even that long ago, the death of Ed in 2019. And of course our newest and even bigger clubhouse.
